Message From Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge

As a university student and later as a professor, I can remember the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the beginning of classes.

Since 1965 I have taught political science at UCR. And in 1994, I was elected Mayor of Riverside.

Riverside is a city of 300,000 people - the 11th largest city in the state. We are an exciting, diverse, urban, and successful city. In 2004, Riverside was selected by the Partners for Livable Communities as one of America's 30 most livable communities.

There are many places and ways to enjoy Riverside. I would strongly recommend Stomping Grounds, "A College Student's Guide to Riverside." Written by five university students, it is an excellent guide as to what to see, do, and where to eat in Riverside (see www.smartriverside.com).

Riverside also offers the opportunity to study and to participate in an urban community. I challenge you to volunteer and/or intern. We are the "real life" crucible where people work, live, raise a family, and play.

I teach one class a year at UCR, enroll if interested. More importantly, I invite you to call and schedule a time to talk.

2004 should be an interesting time in the history of nation, state, and in Riverside. Be a part of it!

Sincerely,

Ronald O. Loveridge
Mayor
